A unit for every camper.
Units at YCC
YCC is a place where each child is looked upon as an individual, and with this in mind we bunk our campers in small age-specific units, each with their own carefully selected unit heads and counsellors.
Weekend Camp (Friday to Sunday afternoon) is geared for first-time campers, between the ages of 7 to 9, giving them an idea of what the fun elements of sleeping camp are about. Limited to a small group of campers, the program is staffed by experienced counsellors, specifically selected for this age group to ensure an exciting and fun weekend at YCC.
For children in grades 1 to 3, these smaller units (separate for boys and girls) have two counsellors and 8-10 campers per cabin. Staff are specifically chosen to work with this age group, and we offer one, two, or 3½ week sessions. Our success with these campers is underlined by the fact that most of our “starters” end up staying for the full session.
For children in grades 4 and 5, these campers have the comfort of going as a bunk to activities, but also have the added excitement of personal “choice” activities. One of the highlights is the “overnight”, which takes place in the camp (close to their units), with a bonfire, marshmallows, and sing-a-longs.
Senior side is made up of Ridgeview (grade 6), Summit (grade 7) and Masada (grade 8). Campers live in 4-6 person platform tent villages, and participate in a variety of out-of-camp trips, including a 3 – 4 day canoe or hiking trip. Campers at this age have the option of spending more time at preferred activities, fostering a sense of independence and maturity.
Junior CIT Program
This unique program is for campers in grade 9, and offers the option of a one month session at camp, or experiencing an incredible full summer program, with the first month at camp, and then 3 weeks touring Israel for a once in a lifetime adventure. Living in the CIT Village, these campers spend 3 days as big-brothers/sisters, and also participate in the “Adventure Series”, which includes white water rafting, go-karting, the camp-wide talent show, water slides in St. Sauveur, and a 3 day hiking or canoeing trip.
Senior CIT Program
For students in grade ten, this 7 ½ week program gives our teenagers the tools they need to become future leaders and staff at YCC. The Sr. CITs participate in three 5-day placements as assistants to the counsellors, and take a four day out-of-camp trip. Another highlight of the program is the production of an original CIT play and writing their own “Alma Mater” song.
