Celebrating our Jewish Heritage

Judaism 01The informal camp atmosphere at YCC is the ideal place for campers and counsellors to become actively involved with the different aspects of Judaism in meaningful, fun, and creative ways. Shabbat has become a very special experience, beginning with the camp-wide “Friday Bandshell” sing-a-long, with the entire camp dressed in white tops. Saturday morning services – either at the outdoor amphitheatre or at the Koby Mandel Centre on rainy days – are interactive, and include campers and staff sharing their special “kotel moments”. Perhaps one of the most memorable elements of camp is the Saturday night Havdallah ceremony, where we all gather arm- in-arm under the stars, with the traditional twisted candle, spices, grape juice, and unique melodies. Whether it’s Israel Day festivities, Tisha B’Av, or Friday night Jewish creative programs, Jewish programming at YCC – taking into account the pluralistic nature of our camp community – revolves around the theme of Jewish values, giving campers and staff a positive sense of their Jewish identity.
